The group moves its first steps in the music business as an indie band in may 2003, with the help of Loop Ash (Scissor, Joker, Mask, Sinkro etc..) record label. An Cafè were firstly formed by Miku (vocalist), Bou (guitar) and Kanon (bass); the group was later joined by Teruki (drums) who left his previous band, the “Feathers Blue”, in august 2003. Miku, Bou and Kanon were searching for new members to create their own band and published advertisements on “boshuu saito” websites (in Japan you may find coutless websites where people leave their advertisements to meet people with the same interests), that’s how they met and decided to try forming a band. Later they met Teruki in a live house. They firstly chose “Athletic Cafè” as a name for the band, then they opted for calling it “Antique Cafè”. The band changed name three times: from Antique Cafè to Antic Cafè and finally to An Cafè. Miku’s passion for music started when he assisted to a Kagerou live in a live house. Bou was influenced by Luna Sea instead. Kanon’s interest for music started after he had read an article about Plastic Tree on a magazine and immediately decided to assist to one of their lives. Teruki was influenced by Dir en Grey after he saw them comparing in a TV show. The band has already published 8 singles plus 1 mini album and 1 album, as well as other participations. On 17th june 2003 their first demo tape “OPU-NGU” came out and was freely distributed as a fifty-piece limited edition. On july 2nd of the same year they published their second demo tape “Uzumaki – Senshokutai”, this time in a three hundred-piece limited edition. Later, on august 2nd they started performing with other bands still unknown in Europe. On september 22nd they participated to other events related to music, this time with well known bands. After their first year as an active band, the second year (2004) starts well too. On january 23rd they came back on stage and on april 5th they published their new maxi single named “Candy Holic”, which reached the 2nd place in Oricon Indies hit parade. They recorded their second maxi single “V69”, available starting from june 9th. On october 21st they took part to the compilation “Omnibus Shock Edge 2004” with bands like Shelly Trip Realize, Gimikku, Clover, Plu’to, Under and so on..On november 24th they published their umpteenth single “Cosmos”. In 2005, precisely on february 23rd, their mini album “Amedama Rock” came out. On march 30th they published “Karahuri Hitei” and in the months of july, august and september other 3 singles came out: “Tekesuta Kousen”, “Escapism” and “Merry Making”. On november 9th their first album “Shikisai Moment” was finally published and reached the top position in Oricon Indies hit parade, while later it stood at 2nd place. Important is the collaboration with the band Shelly Trip Realize (composed by Kikasa, former Duè le Quartz) for the single “Shelly Tic CAFE”. An Cafè are part of Oshare kei category, which is a sort of nicer and coloured Visual kei which unites bands with a Visual kawaii (cute) style. Not only their look but even their music as well as their PVs are able to bring joy and during interviews they’re always showing their funny and playful side.
